At the end of Surah Al-Furqan, Allah gives the characteristics of the slave of Ar-Rahman, and one of the beautiful characteristics is a du’a that the slave makes for his wives and his children:
“And those who say: “Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqun” (25:74)
From Tafseer ibn Kathir; “means those who ask Allah to bring forth from their loins offsprings who will obey Him and worship Him and not associate anything in worship with Him. Ibn ‘Abbas said: “This means (offsprings) who will strive to obey Allah and bring them joy in this world and the Hereafter.” (At-Tababri 19:318)
Ibn ‘Abbas and others added “Leaders who would be taken as examples in good.” (At-Tabari (19:319)
Others added: “Guides who would call others to goodness.” They wanted their worship to be connected to the worship of their children and offspring, and their guidance to go beyond themselves and benefit others. This would be more rewarding and a better end, as it was recorded in Sahih Muslim from Abu Hurayah, May Allah be pleased with hi, that the Messenger of Allah () said: “When a son of Adam dies, his deeds cease apart from three: a righteous child who will pray for him, knowledge from which others benefit after him, or an ongoing charity.”
Our forefather, Ibraheem ( Alayhi Salaahtu Was Salaam), spent quality time and taught his two sons, Ismail and Ishaq, to be obedient to Allah. They observed how steadfast in worship and obedience to Allaah their father was during the many hardships that he faced and took lessons form that. He too made Du’a for righteous offspring:
“O my Lord! Make me one who performs As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and (also) from my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation.” (Qur’an 14:40)
Allah is the Hearer of Du’a…
Ibnul Qayyim رحمه الله said the word (الحزن) – () does not appear in the Qur’aan except in the form of forbidding it
(ولا تهنو ولاتحزنوا)
or in the form of negating it
(فلاخوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون).
And the reason for this is because there is no benefit for having sadness in the heart. The most beloved thing to shaitan is to make the believing slave sad by taking him off track.
The Prophet (ﷺ) sought refuge in Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) from sadness
(اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهم والحزن)
🔹Ibnul Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Sadness weakens the heart and diminishes determination and wanting to go forward. And there is nothing more beloved to the shaitan than the sadness of a believer.”
For this reason, be happy, optimistic and think good about Allah (سبحانه وتعالى). Have trust in what Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) is able to do and depend on Him. You will find happiness and pleasure in all situations.
🔹Ibnul Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Don’t ruin your happiness with worry, and don’t ruin your mind with pessimism. Don’t ruin your success with deception and don’t ruin the optimism of others by destroying it. Don’t ruin your day by looking back at yesterday.
If you think about your situation, you will find that Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) has given you things without asking, so have trust in Allah ( سبحانه وتعالى) that He doesn’t prevent anything you want except there is goodness for you.
You could be sleeping and the doors of the heavens are being opened with dua’as being made on your behalf, subhan Allah: perhaps from someone poor whom you helped, or someone sad whom you brought joy, or someone passing by and you smiled at him, or someone in distress and you removed it.. so don’t ever underestimate any good deeds.”
🔹One of the righteous predecessors said:
” I make dua’a to Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) for something I want, and if He gives it to me then I’m happy once and if He doesn’t give it to me then I’m happy ten times because the first was my choice and the second was Allah’s choice.”
🔹As Sa’ady (رحمه الله) on him said: “Life is short so don’t shorten it with worries, grief, and sadness.”
So be the owner of a heart that breathes happiness and satisfaction.
May Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) make your times happy and may Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) forgive us all. آمِيْن ثُمَّ آمِيْن. .
Tafseer Ibn Kathir:
“This means that nothing eludes HIm and He does not miss anything, whether it is small or great. He does not forget anything and His Most Exalted knowledge is described as encompassing everything. Blessed be He, the Exalted, the Most Holy and free of any imperfections. The knowledge that creatures have has two deficiencies: the first is that is does not completely encompass everything, and the second is that the creature is prone to forget after knowing. Therefore, Allaah has declared Himself above such deficiencies.”
Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) is the foundation of our religion that which everything else is built upon. In fact, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) spent 23 years of his mission focusing and calling his nation to the Oneness of Allah. If we truly understood, implemented and gave importance to Tawheed in the same manner as the Messenger (peace be upon him) did to his companions then we would find tremendous success and goodness within our lives. However, if we neglect this fundamental concept and abandon understanding it then that will only lead to failure and destruction in our lives. Therefore, the question arises: what is Tawheed?
